VISION 2010 will take place from November 9 to 11, in Stuttgart, Germany. During the past two decades, VISION has matured--together with the industry for machine vision and identification technologies--to become an essential platform for the international exchange of information and product presentation.

As the show has successively expanded its application spectrum, especially in the direction of non-industrial machine vision the management at Messe Stuttgart has felt that the previous subheading, with its focus on the industrial application sector, no longer reflects the current climate. And so, beginning in 2010, VISION will be referred to as the International Trade Fair for Machine Vision.

Despite the global economic situation, VISION enjoyed success last year: 5,701 visitors attended Stuttgart's trade fair grounds in the autumn of 2009; a drop of 9 percent in comparison to the previous year but a figure that far exceeded the expectations of the 292 exhibitors of machine vision systems, components, and solutions.

"We are expecting a positive development this year. All key players are once again on board and the current registration figures are not far behind those for the same period last year," explains Florian Niethammer, project manager of VISION. In Halls 4 and 6, there will be 20,000 sq m of exhibition space available again for the presentation of new components, systems, and solutions, including cameras, vision sensors, frame grabbers, lighting, lasers, optics, lenses, software, and services.

The technical program will include the global forum Industrial VISION Days (organized by the VDMA Machine Vision), and the VISION Award, which is a prize for outstanding solutions and contributions to applied machine vision. The Application Park allows for hands-on evaluation, while the Integration Area for system solutions will be expanded.

The International Machine Vision Standards area will present current industry developments. Newcomers to the world of machine vision or those with little previous knowledge will benefit from seminars offered by the VISION Academy. Young, innovative companies within the machine vision industry will present themselves and their products and services at the joint stand of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.

The percentage of visitors coming from outside of Germany has risen since VISION 2009 from 28 to 33 percent and the increased international success of VISION is attributed to the trade fair partners: the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) and Automated Imaging Association (AIA). To help with international growth, VISION 2010 will include an International Pavilion for exhibitors from abroad that are new to the trade fair.
